Women's Tennis Concludes Season at A-10 Championship
April 23, 2006 MONROEVILLE, Pa. - The No. 3 seed Xavier University women's tennis team fell, 4-3, to No. 4 seed UMass on Sunday evening in the Consolation Match of the 2006 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship, which was held at the Club 4 Life. With the loss, Xavier concludes its season with a 14-10 record while the Minutewomen also end the season with a 14-10 mark. XU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Emily Tuchscherer and Sarah Potts downed Dorothy Iwanowicz and Susan Johnson, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles while Jeanette Feider and Kate Lohner defeated Jana Bartoloni and Stephanie Gimenez at No. 3 in the tiebreaker, 9-8 (5). Jackie Vilines made quick work of Susan Johnson (6-0, 6-2) at No. 3 singles. Potts would then help XU earn its third point when she defeated Jara Bartoloni, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 6 singles. Kristen Clary then lost a hard-fought match to Michelle Spiess (7-5, 7-5) at No. 1 singles and Masha Pozar defeated Courtney (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2) at No. 2 singles. Alicia Papa (6-3, 6-4) and Tuchscherer (6-1, 6-4) were also downed in singles action. The 2006 campaign marked the 16th consecutive winning season for the Musketeers. XU has also finished in the top-four of the Atlantic 10 Conference in each of the last five seasons.
