Women's Tennis Secures 4-1 Win Over No. 9 Rhode Island

MONROEVILLE, Pa. - The Xavier University women's tennis team defeated No. 9 seed Rhode Island, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon and earned the right to play No. 6 Duquesne in tomorrow's Atlantic 10 Championship fifth-place match at the Club 4 Life at 8 a.m.  With the win, the No. 5 seeded Musketeers improve to 16-7 on the year while Rhode Island ends its season with a 14-6 record. 

 

Kate Lohner and Jeanette Feider got XU off on the right foot with an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles and Jill Ducro and Annie Diedalis clinched the doubles point for Xavier with an 8-6 win in the No. 2 match. 

 

Sophomore Kara Courtney kept the momentum going for XU with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and Kaitlyn Zinn won her No. 4 match shortly thereafter (6-4, 6-1). 

 

Jill Ducro secured the Musketeers' spot in tomorrow's fifth-place match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nyssa Peele.
