MONROEVILLE, Pa. - The Xavier University women's tennis team defeated No. 5 seed Saint Bonaventure by a 4-0 count on Friday afternoon in first round action of the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa.  With the win, Xavier advances into the quarterfinal round where the Musketeers will square-off against No. 4 seed UMass at 6 p.m. 

Xavier (15-6) jumped out to the 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point in convincing fashion.  Kate Lohner and Jeanette Feider shut out their No. 3 doubles opponents and Jackie Vilines and Kara Courtney downed Yolande Callaghan and Anna Perevenzetseva by an 8-3 count to take home the doubles portion of the competition. 

Alicia Papa made quick work of Vanessa Close (6-0, 6-0) in the No. 6 singles match and Feider followed that up with an equally dominant victory over Eileen Horgan at No. 5 singles. 

Jackie Vilines clinched the victory for XU with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Yolande Callaghan at No. 1 singles, propelling the Musketeers into the quarterfinal. 

The Musketeers have finished in the top-four in each of the last four years and a win over UMass tonight will clinch a fifth-straight semifinal appearance.
