CINCINNATI - The Xavier University women's tennis team has received the No. 3 seed for the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, which will begin on Friday, April 21, at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. XU, 12-8 on the season and winners of eight of its last 10 matches, will open up play with a first-round match-up versus the No. 14 seed St. Bonaventure at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

The Musketeers earned the third seed for the second consecutive season, which included a 4-1 record versus Atlantic 10 Conference competition. Xavier posted wins over St. Bonaventure, Duquesne, George Washington and Dayton while the lone loss came to the second-seeded Charlotte 49ers. In this season's previous meeting with the Bonnies on March 17, Xavier posted a 7-0 win at the Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club.

Xavier is led by senior Kristen Clary, who is 23-7 on the year in singles including a perfect 5-0 mark versus A-10 opponents. She has won 16 of her last 18 matches and will be slotted at the No. 1 position for the tournament. Freshman Kara Courtney and senior Sarah Potts have also reached the 20-win plateau on the season. Courtney is 22-9 on the year with a 9-2 record at No. 2 and Potts is 23-5 overall and has won 10 consecutive matches.

Xavier is seeking its first Atlantic 10 Conference Championship since joining the Conference prior the 1995-96 season. The Musketeers have finished in the top four in each of the last three years including runner-up finishes in 2002 and 2004.
