Freshman Sydney Liggins named BIG EAST Player of the Week.

CINCINNATI - Freshman Sydney Liggins had a huge impact on Xavier's 3-0 record earning her BIG EAST player of the week.
Liggins went 4-0 in singles and doubles play helping Xavier shutout all their opponents, Wright State, Creighton and Providence.
At No. 1 singles, Liggins was 3-0. She did not allow any of her opponents to record more than two points. First up for Liggins was freshman Linsey Verstrepen of Wright State and she quickly took her down, 6-0, 6-1. Creighton's junior Jennie Hartjes proved to be no problem for Liggins as she won the match 6-2, 6-1. Rounding out the weekend was Providence's senior Maria Clara Bernardez and Liggins blanked her out, 6-0, 6-0, completing her second shutout of the season.
As for doubles competition, Liggins and partner Alex Brinker went 1-0, with leads in the other two matches when the doubles point was secured. Their victory came against Creighton's Maria Clara Bernardez and Olivia Hogan, 8-0.¬
Liggins posts singles record of 17-5 and while competing at the No. 1 position she is 7-2.
The women's team will compete in the BIG EAST Tournament next week. Play begins Friday, April 25 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
