CINCINNATI - Freshman Alex Brinker's Xavier career is off to tremendous start evidence by the fourth Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award that she received on Tuesday from the conference office.
She received her second-straight award after posting a flawless 3-0 record in singles matches and two doubles wins.
Two of her three singles wins came at the No. 1 position where she was playing for the first time. Her wins against Alex Bastock (Wright State), Claire Spradlin (Northern Kentucky) and Fatya Amiri (St. Bonaventure). The latter two were at the top position.
She teamed with Megan Morris and picked up two 8-1 victories at the No. 3 doubles position.
Brinker is currently riding a 20-match winning streak and has an overall singles record of 21-1. Her only loss of the season came against a nationally-ranked opponent.
The Granger, Ind., navitve will be a big part of Xavier's lineup in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship that begins on Thursday. The Musketeers are the second seed and will face St. Bonaventure in the first round.
