CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis senior Katie Pleiman and freshman Alex Brinker were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, by the league office on Tuesday.
It is the second award for both players who have helped the Musketeers post a 12-4 overall record and 6-0 mark when facing league foes.
Pleiman's second of the season and third-career award comes after two singles and doubles wins last week. Pleiman picked up victories over Stephanie Hollis of Saint Louis (6-1, 6-2) and Judy Li of Duquesne (1-6, 6-3, 6-4). The senior also teamed with Kally Alkire for No. 1 doubles wins against SLU and Duquesne, extending their winning streak to three.
Brinker, stepping into the No. 2 singles position, has won 14-straight singles matches, including her fourth and fifth straight set win in matches against league opponents. The freshman posted singles victories against Mia Elmore of Saint Louis (6-4, 6-1) and Duquesne's Megan O'Sullivan (6-3, 6-3). Brinker also added a No. 3 doubles win with Brooke Dennis against SLU and was leading Duquesne 7-4, when Xavier closed out the 4-3 team victory, their fifth one-point win of the season.
Xavier tries to close out a perfect month of March when it hosts Cincinnati for a Thursday afternoon match. The match will begin at 1 p.m. at the Mercy Fairfield HealthPlex.
