CINCINNATI - Xavier freshman Alex Brinker posted two singles and doubles wins for the women's tennis team last week and has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Rookie Performer of the Week.
It is the first league award for the Granger, Ind., native as she extended her winning streak with her third consecutive singles win of the season with straight set matches over opponents Carly Peck of Dayton (6-0, 6-1) and Nimisha Mohan of Miami (Ohio) (6-3, 6-2).
The Penn High School graduate also posted two doubles wins with partner Allyson Westling against Dayton and Miami (Ohio). Brinker's efforts helped bring the Musketeers to a 12th-straight win against conference rival Dayton and proved key in a long awaited victory over the RedHawks.
The Musketeers are schedule to face the Morehead State Eagles on Friday night. First serve begins at 7 p.m. at Cincinnati's Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club. Next up, Xavier will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to face off against the Hoosiers.
