Women’s Tennis Records 5-2 Win at Marquette


MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Xavier women’s tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 5-2 win over Marquette (2-3) on Saturday morning at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

XU picked up the doubles point with wins at the first and second positions. At No. 1, Lauren Clary and Stephanie Bauer moved to 15-4 on the season with an 8-4 defeat of Callan Smith and Maria Calbeto. In the second position, Kristen Clary and Annie Diedalis won their third straight match as the duo downed Kathleen Donovan and Elsemieke Dokter, 8-5.

In singles action, Lauren Clary won her 12th consecutive match and improved to 15-2 on the season as she defeated Smith at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 2, Kristen Clary upped her record to 12-4 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Calbeto. In the third position, senior Stephanie Bauer defeated Erin Watkins in three sets (6-2, 5-7, 6-3) and improves to 10-7 in singles play. Emily Tuchscherer marked her first appearance of the spring season with a three-set win over Andrea Bukacek (5-7, 6-1, 6-1) at No. 6.

Xavier will return to the courts on Friday, Feb. 11, when the Musketeers travel to Chicago to take on DePaul at the Lakeshore Athletic Club. The match will get underway at 6:00 p.m.
