CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's tennis team was selected by the league's 16 head coaches to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 Conference this year. The announcement was made by the league office on Friday.
The Musketeers return all their key elements from last year's team that reached the quarterfinals of the tournament championship. Included in those returning for Xavier are all-conference selections senior Katie Pleiman and sophomore Daniella Patton.
Head coach Eric Toth lost only one member from last year's squad that posted a 16-6 overall record and 6-2 mark when facing conference opponents.
Pleiman led the Musketeers from the top singles spot last season and was one of five Musketeers to eclipse double-digit singles victories in dual matches. The others were Patton, junior Andrea Wolf, senior Kally Alkire and junior Allyson Westling.
Xavier also returns its three most used doubles partners from last year.
League newcomer VCU was picked to win the title earning 15 of the possible 16 first-place votes. Richmond, winners of four-straight A-10 titles, was selected to finish as the runner-up. Rounding out the top five were Massachusetts, Temple and Charlotte.
This year's Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship will be held April 18-21 at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
