CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's tennis team begins its 2013 campaign when it hosts Detroit on Friday at the Five Seasons-Cincinnati Sports Country Club before traveling to face Louisville on Sunday.

Friday's home match begins at 6 p.m., with first serve scheduled for a 10 a.m. start on Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Musketeers return seven players from last year's squad including Atlantic 10 All-Conference players senior Katie Pleiman and sophomore Daniella Patton. Also returning to the court this year are seniors Kally Alkire and Natalie Handler, juniors Allyson Westling and Andrea Wolf and sophomore Lizzie Oosterbaan.

Xavier will be aided by a sprinkle of freshman talent that was headlined in the fall by Alex Brinker. Joining her are classmates Brooke Dennis, Caitlin Lawless and Megan Morris.

Last year Pleiman led the Musketeers with a 17-5 overall singles record and 15-4 mark when playing at the number one spot. She missed the fall recovering from an injury but will make her return to the court on this weekend.

Other top singles players last year for the Musketeers were Wolf and Westling who won 17 and 16 singles matches respectively. Patton spent the majority of her time at the second singles slot last season where she racked up a 10-8 record on her way to A-10 Second Team honors.

In the fall the Musketeers were led by Brinker who posted a 9-5 mark in singles play. She also joined forces with Alkire in doubles play. The two won the doubles championship at the Milwaukee Classic.

Xavier will face a Detroit team that has many familiar faces after the Musketeers and Titans played at several fall events together. Louisville will prove to be a challenge for Xavier as the Cardinals have two singles players ranked in the ITA Top 100.
