CINCINNATI -- The Xavier women's tennis team will hit the courts for the first time in 2012 Saturday as the Musketeers travel to Hamilton, Ohio to face the RedHawks of Miami (Ohio) at 2 p.m. at the Riverside Racquet Club.
"We look forward to getting another regular season underway this weekend against Miami (Ohio)," said XU head coach Eric Toth. "Miami has been an NCAA tournament team over the last several seasons and from what we saw this past fall has another very solid squad once again. I'm really looking forward to watching this year's team compete.
We have a couple of newcomers in Lizzie Oosterbaan and Daniella Patton that will make significant contributions to this year's squad, as will the remaining team members that have quite a bit of experience and have played a lot of meaningful matches over the last couple of years. Saturday's match will be one where we will have to be at our competitive best and also provide the opportunity to improve ourselves against a high quality opponent. I look for our girls to steadily get better as our season progresses and be a pretty solid group at the end of the season when it matters most."
Junior Katie Pleiman is Xavier's top returnee. Last season, the Dayton, Ohio native posted a 22-7 overall record and a 16-4 mark in the dual match season.
Miami went 15-9 during the dual match season and Christine Guerrazzi and Alix Thurman each led the RedHawks with a 6-4 record during the 2011 fall tournament season.
