Women's Tennis Ends ITA Midwest Regional Run
Oct. 24, 2008
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Xavier University women’s tennis team dropped both its main draw matches on Friday to fall out of competition at the ITA Midwest Regional. Senior Kara Courtney was one win shy of qualifying for the singles main draw, but fell 6-0, 6-1 in the third round. Courtney won a pair of matches on Friday to advance into the final round of qualifying at the Regional, but ran into a stiff test in Whitney Wilson of Michigan State. Also invited to compete in the doubles bracket, Courtney and fellow-senior partner Jeanette Feider faced Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins in their first round match. Casperson and Jenkins defeated the Musketeer duo, winning by a score of 8-4. Playing her third match of the day, Courtney rallied with Feider to end the day on a high note, besting Anna Volkova and Tanisha Welch of Youngstown State, 8-4, in a consolation match. The women’s tennis squad will be out of action until its dual meet season begins with a matchup against Florida Atlantic on January 9. SINGLES DOUBLES (Consolation)
