Oct. 22, 2012
WEST LAFEYETTE, Ind. - Freshman Alex Brinker reached the semifinals of the consolation draw at the 2012 USTA/ITA Regional Championship after picking up a win over Memphis' Kelly Gray on Sunday. However she would lose her semifinal match to end her's and the Xavier women's tennis team's fall season.
"Our girls did a nice job this weekend and over the entire fall," head coach Eric Toth said. "They were really challenged in the various events we competed in and should not be daunted by anybody we face during the upcoming regular season. We will continue to work hard on and off the court during our off-season to prepare for what will be a most challenging and exciting 2013 season."
Brinker took out Gray in a three-set battle. The freshman lost the first set but rallied to win the next two sets to earn the hard fought victory (1-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5). In the semifinal she lost to Liza Tymechenko of Memphis (6-0, 7-5) to end her fall season.
