WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Xavier women's tennis team competed in the USTA/ITA regional championships on Friday, seeing mild success. The Musketeers finished the day with one win and three losses.
The doubles team of Kally Alkire and Alex Brinker picked up the Musketeers' lone victory on the day, winning their consolation match over Ball State's Bethany Moore and Courtne Wild, 8-3. They will meet up with fourth-seeded Purdue tomorrow at 8 a.m.
In singles action, Daniella Patton dropped her opening match to Middle Tennessee State's Nayara Moraes in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. Patton will compete in the consolation bracket tomorrow against Purdue.
Playing in the bottom half of the main singles draw, Alex Brinker fell in straight sets to third-seeded Marie Casares of Vanderbilt in straight sets. Brinker will play Tennessee's Tiffany Tavares at noon tomorrow.
The Musketeers hope to pick up a few wins tomorrow and extend their stay in West Lafayette.
