Women's Tennis has Strong Showing at Miami Invitational
Oct. 8, 2006 OXFORD, Ohio - Freshman Kaitlyn Zinn remains undefeated on the fall season and she led the Xavier women's tennis team to a strong showing at the Miami Invitational this weekend. Zinn won all three of her matches as the Musketeers went 6-1 in singles on Sunday and 5-3 in doubles. In round three, Zinn defeated Katherin Rist of Ball State 6-3, 6-1. Jill Ducro, Jeanette Feider, Alicia Papa, Kate Lohner and Jarmila Kavecanska also posted singles victories in the final round. Ducro downed Jen Pollack of BSU 2-6, 7-5, 10-4. Feider defeated Miami's Lauren Hofmann (6-3, 6-4), Papa ousted Emma Retter of BSU (6-2, 6-2), Lohner's victory came over Kelsey Mills of Wright State (6-0, 6-0) and Kavecanska beat Page Ashby of Eastern Kentucky (6-0, 6-2). In doubles, the pairings of Jackie Vilines & Kara Courtney and Jill Ducro & Annie Diedalis went unbeaten for the tournament. Vilines and Courtney downed Detroy and Mellion of Dayton 8-4 in round two and then defeated Lomidze and Jirouskova of Miami 8-6 in the final round. Ducro and Diedalis beat Cincinnati's Owens and Paradis (8-5) and UD's Detroy and Mellion 9-7. Feider and Zinn lost to McPhillips and Linden of Miami 8-4 in round two but ended with an 8-5 win over Miami's Rzezniczek and Hofmann. Lohner and Papa dropped both of their doubles matches on Sunday.
For the weekend, the women's team posted an impressive 15-7 mark in singles play and 8-4 in doubles. The women's team returns to action next weekend at IPFW. |
