EAST LANSING, MICH.- The Xavier Musketeers women's tennis team finished up play at the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational on Sunday, posting a 1-3 record on the day. Many of the Musketeers' scheduled matches on the day were not played.

The lone win came from Kally Alkire and Alex Brinker in doubles Draw A. The duo soundly defeated host Michigan State, 8-1.

Draw B doubles featured Andrea Wolf and Lizzie Oosterbaan, who fell in a close match to Carly Peck and Maureen Stevens of Dayton, 8-6.

Daniella Patton and Caitlin Lawless were the only two Musketeers to play their singles matches. Patton lost to Miami's Nimisha Mohan in the Draw A consolation bracket final, 6-0, 6-2. Lawless was beaten by Miami's Ana Rajkovic by the score of 8-1.

Coach Eric Toth knew that this would be the toughest test on the Musketeers' fall schedule. "Going into this weekend I knew we would be facing as good of competition in this event overall as a team than we would at any of the other events we would be playing this Fall. I felt our overall efforts were good, but our results could have been better. We need to be competing a little better when our matches get to their most important moments. Our coaching staff and I need to keep coaching them up to have the belief that we can succeed no matter what the circumstances of the match are."

The Musketeers close their fall schedule with the USTA/ITA Regional Championship in West Lafayette, Indiana, beginning on October 18.
