Day Two Of Spartan Invitational In The Books For Xavier
Oct. 6, 2012
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Xavier women's tennis had a few positive outcomes but struggled as a whole on the second day of the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. Freshman Alex Brinker, who won both of her matches on Friday, dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Michigan State's Marina Bohrer. Brinker will take on Akron's Prang Pantusart in her final match of Draw A play Sunday. Advancing to the backdraw on Draw A was sophomore Daniella Patton who battled Dayton's Carly Peck to a 7-6 (10-2), 3-6, 1 (10-5) decision. She will play Nimisha Mohan from Miami (Ohio) on Sunday. Senior Kally Alkire nailed down a 6-2, 3-6, 1 (10-7) victory over Dayton's Sammi Hornbarger in backdraw play of the Draw B singles. However, she would lose (6-0, 6-3) the next match to Alix Thurman of Miami (Ohio). Freshman Brooke Dennis lost (6-3, 1-6, 6-3) her match in the main Draw E singles to Silvia Carvajal from Toledo. After winning their first doubles match Brinker and Alkire dropped two doubles matches to Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and Claudia Escribe from Purdue and Haley Craig and Natalia Kuvakina from Illinois-Chicago. Play resumes on Sunday with most of the Musketeers playing in consolation matches.
