Women's Tennis Concludes Play at Rainy Bowling Green Invitational
Sept. 22, 2012
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Xavier women's tennis team ran into a string of tough matches and Mother Nature on Saturday at the Bowling Green Invitational.
The Musketeers finished the rain-shortened day with a 2-7 record and were able to play just two of their singles matches.
Rain forced play to be halted several times, and also forced a change of venues. Many of the matches were played at Bowling Green High School and Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness in Maumee, Ohio. The weather forced the cancellation of most of the back-draw consolation singles matches.
Alex Brinker and Andrea Wolf were both able to play their singles matches, as they were both in the finals of their respected flights. Brinker, competing in the first flight, was defeated in three sets by Emily Reuland of Bowling Green, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5. In flight three, Andrea Wolf was beaten by Ramona Costea, of Miami (OH), in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
The bright spot on the day for the Musketeers was the doubles combination of Ally Westling and Lizzie Oosterbaan who won the third doubles flight. In their semifinal match, they defeated IPFW, 8-5, advancing to the championship. In the final, they won a close match, 8-6, over members from host Bowling Green.
In flight one of the doubles draw, Kally Alkire and Katie Pleiman fell to players from Cincinnati 8-4. The second flight featured Andrea Wolf and Daniella Patton, who lost to a duo from Bowling Green 8-5.
Brooke Dennis and Megan Morris, who won their first match on Friday, dropped both decisions on Saturday, to Toledo and Cincinnati, respectively.
The Musketeers' next tournament on the fall schedule begins on Sept. 29 at the ITA/Rivera All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
