Xavier Women Roll Duquesne 4-0 At Atlantic 10 Tournament
April 24, 2010
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Xavier women's tennis team rebounded from last night's loss to Charlotte in dominating style as the No. 1 seed Musketeers rolled No. 4 seed Duquesne 4-0 Saturday in the consolation round of the Atlantic 10 tournament.
The Musketeers took the doubles point thanks to a Kally Alkire and Jill Ducro's 9-7 win over Megan O'Sullivan and Erin Conroy at No. 2, and Christie Pleiman and Katie Pleiman's 8-5 defeat of Tara Majdalani and Ana Mungo in the No. 3 match.
The Musketeers made quick work of the Dukes in singles play by posting wins in the first three singles matches.
"It was great to end our season on a high note," said XU tennis coach Eric Toth. "Consolation play at a conference tournament allows for that. I felt it was absolutely necessary for our girls to come out, play well, and earn a win over a good team like Duquesne after falling short last night. I am really proud of the way we came out and played today. I am most happy for our seniors Jill Ducro and Kaitlyn Zinn. It was great for them to complete their careers at Xavier with victories. It was certainly no surprise for me to see them do this, as I have seen them do it for four years. I can't thank these two enough for how they have represented themselves at Xavier both on and off the court. They will be missed."
Tifanie Treece cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mungo in the No. 1 match. Ducro defeated Rachel McGowan 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, and Alkire defeated O'Sullivan 6-3, 6-2 to seal the victory for the Musketeers.
With the win, XU finishes the season at 14-9.
