Freshman Kara Courtney clinched the XU win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2.

MONROEVILLE, Pa. - The Xavier University women's tennis team recorded its second win in as many days as the Musketeers posted a 4-1 defeat of George Washington in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday morning. XU advances to the semifinals for the sixth straight year where the Musketeers will take on A-10 newcomer Charlotte.
The Musketeers opened the match by winning the doubles point for the fourth consecutive match with victories at the first and third positions. Jeanette Feider and Kate Lohner recorded their 10th win of the season with an 8-5 victory over Mara Frisch and Madhuri Jha at No. 3. At No. 1, Kristen Clary and Kara Courtney rallied from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Anastasia Skavronskaia and Sandra Simunic, 9-7.
Clary gave XU its second point of the match as the senior recorded a straight-set win at No. 1 singles over Skavronskaia, 6-3, 6-4. The senior improves to 24-7 overall including a stellar 18-3 record at the top position.
Senior Sarah Potts put Xavier up 3-0 with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Mara Frisch at No. 6 to move to 25-5 on the season. Courtney closed out the match for XU as the freshman defeated Kendall Swenson, 6-4, 6-4, for her 23rd singles win of the season. At No. 4, Alicia Papa fell 7-5, 6-1 to Tracy Stecko for GW's lone point of the match.
Xavier will have a short break before returning to the courts this afternoon to take on the No. 3 seed Charlotte. The match is scheduled to start at approximately 1:00 p.m. In this season's previous meeting with the 49ers, XU dropped a 5-2 decision at Charlotte on Feb. 28.
