CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Xavier women's tennis team opened the Atlantic 10 Tournament with a decisive victory over St. Bonaventure, winning 4-0.

The Musketeers jumped on the Bonnies early, winning the doubles matches handily. Alex Brinker and Andrea Wolf made quick work of their opponents, as they needed only thirty minutes to win 8-0. Ally Westling and Daniella Patton captured the doubles point for the Musketeers, winning 8-4.

Kally Alkire and Alex Brinker were leading 7-1 at No. 1 doubles but did not finish, as the doubles point had already been decided.

Singles play featured more of the same, as the Musketeers won three matches to close out the victory. Sophomore Lizzie Oosterbaan and Westling made quick work of their opponents, as both won by a score of 6-0, 6-1. That meant only one more win was needed to push the Musketeers into the quarterfinals.

They would get that win from Brinker. Playing in the top singles spot, Brinker defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-1, and in the process pushed her outstanding record to 22-1 on the year.

There were three singles matches that did not finish as a result of Xavier wrapping up the match. Patton was leading her match 6-0, 2-2 at the No. 3 singles spot, and Megan Morris was leading 6-2, 4-0 at No. 6 singles when play was stopped. Alkire was losing 2-6, 1-3 when her match was suspended.

Head coach Eric Toth expressed relief at the match being done so quickly.

"You want to win and get off the court quickly because it's going to be a long weekend," Toth said. "Winning four matches in four days is difficult and the quicker you can take care of business, the more it is going to help you later on. We played great and really set the tone in doubles and hopefully that helps us the rest of the weekend."

With the win, the Musketeers move to 18-5 overall and move on to play the winner of the match between Fordham and Duquesne. The Musketeers' quarterfinal match will be played at 1 p.m. at the Boar's Head Sports Complex in Charlottesville, Va.
