April 10, 2014
DAYTON, Ohio - Women's tennis team swept Wright State at the WSU Tennis Courts on Wednesday. With this sweep, the women record their sixth shutout of the season.
"Our girls really did a great job of competing hard on every court," said head coach Eric Toth. "That is all a coach can ask for. We played good tennis, too. We look forward to finishing up the regular season this weekend with two important BIG EAST matches, facing Creighton and Providence. Two more good performances will give us all the confidence we need heading into the BIG EAST tournament in a couple of weeks."
Doubles competition started Xavier off strong with Cristina Di Lorenzo and Daniella Patton and Allyson Westling and Andrea Wolf obtaining quick wins. Di Lorenzo and Patton beat Chelsea Girgash and Lauren Smith, 8-0, while Westling and Wolf followed in their lead. They beat Megan Brdicka and Aby Madrigal, 8-1.
Wolf shut out Liz Steingass to capture the first singles point of the match. Alex Brinker quickly followed beating Vanessa Madrigal, 6-1, 6-1. Di Lorenzo secured the third singles point by beating A. Madrigal, 6-0, 6-1.
