Women's Tennis Sweeps UMBC, 7-0

BALTIMORE - After dropping a tough match Friday afternoon, Xavier's women's tennis team was able to bounce back Saturday. The team faced UMBC on the road came out victorious, 7-0. This win is the team's fifth shutout of the season.
Freshman Sydney Liggins started the team off strong at the No. 1 spot with a victory over Kim Berghaus, 6-4, 6-2. Fellow freshman Cristina Di Lorenzo followed Liggins's start with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Mariami Dolashivili.
Rounding off singles play was Daniella Patton and Lizzie Ooserbaan grabbing the last two points up or grabs. Patton beat Isabel Aldunate, 6-3, 7-5, and Oosterbaan beat Shannon Cleary, 6-0, 7-6(6).
Doubles competition took care of business quickly with Brinker and Liggins and Allyson Westling and Wolf winning their matches, 8-3 and 8-4, respectively.
Head coach Eric Toth said, "Our girls really did a great job in some tricky conditions to respond from yesterday's loss. We have one more big week coming up we'll look to get things started in a positive direction against Wright St on Wednesday."
The match against Wright State will be played at Wright State on Wednesday, April 9 at 3 p.m.
