Women's Tennis Defeats Dayton, 6-1

CINCINNATI - The Xavier University women's tennis team recorded its third-straight win of the season on Tuesday afternoon as the Musketeers cruised to a 6-1 win over the University of Dayton on the XU campus. Xavier improves to 10-7 on the season including a 4-1 mark versus Atlantic 10 Conference opponents while the Flyers fall to 8-8 overall.
XU took control of the match early with a sweep of the three doubles matches. Kristen Clary and Kara Courtney tallied the first win of the afternoon with an 8-2 win over Allysa Detroy and Kate Mellion at No. 1. At No. 3, Jeanette Feider and Kate Lohner picked up their fifth consecutive win as they defeated Mackenzie Hoops and Carrie Trigilio, 8-6. Seniors Sarah Potts and Emily Tuchscherer completed the sweep at No. 2 with an 8-6 victory over Nicole Dzubay and Megan Gray.
Junior Jackie Vilines scored the first singles win for the Musketeers as she made quick work of Dzubay at No. 3 en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Courtney recorded the 20th win of her freshman season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Mellion at No. 2. Potts sealed the Xavier win with a straight-set victory over Trigilio at No. 6, 6-0, 6-3.
At No. 5, Tuchscherer won her 10th match of the spring season with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Andrea Muresan. Clary notched the final singles win of the afternoon for the Musketeers at No. 1 where she defeated Detroy, 6-3, 6-2.
Xavier will return to action on Wednesday, April 5, when the Musketeers travel to take on Ohio State University at 3:00 p.m. at the Stickney Tennis Center on the OSU campus.
