Women's Tennis Records 6-1 Victory over Wright State

CINCINNATI - Despite playing without top-flight senior Kara Courtney, the XU women's tennis team bested Wright State in decisive fashion, 6-1, on Tuesday. Sophomore Kelsey Kinnard played well in her move up to the Flight 2 slot, cruising to a straight set victory to help the Musketeers win five of six singles matches. XU opened the meet with a decisive sweep of the doubles action. Juniors Jill Ducro and Aylin Seyalioglu started the Musketeers off with an 8-2 win over Wright State's Jackie Garret and Karina Presti in the Flight 2 match. Sophomore Kelsey Kinnard and Tifanie Treece followed suit with an 8-3 besting of the Raiders' Masha Peresetsky and Kenisha Webb in Flight 1 action to give XU the doubles point. Completing the sweep, senior Jeanette Feider and sophomore Christie Pleiman dominated their Flight 3 opponents, Monica Capozziello and Kelsey Miles, in their 8-1 win. Once singles action got underway, the Musketeers continued their strong play with five straight set victories. Feider started the rally, earning her third consecutive singles win with a 6-1, 6-1 besting of Garrett in the Flight 4 match.Ducro followed with her fifth straight singles victory, tying for the best active streak on the team. She took down Webb in Flight 3 action, winning 6-2, 6-1 to earn her team-best 14th singles win of the dual meet season. Bumped up to the Flight 2 slot for the first time this season, Kinnard responded to the challenge with a straight set victory over Peresetsky. The two battled in the first set before Kinnard came out with a 6-4 win. The Musketeer sophomore shut down Peresetsky in the second set, blanking her in a 6-0 victory.
Matching Ducro's streak of five straight singles victories, junior Kaitlyn Zinn won her Flight 5 match in convincing fashion, shutting out Cappozziello 6-0, 6-0. Pleiman matched her teammate's effort, recording a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Wright State's Kelsey Miles in their Flight 6 showdown. XU will return to action on Wednesday, taking on Cincinnati at the Xavier Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Depending on the weather, the meet may be moved to a yet to be determined indoor location. |
