Xavier Drops BIG EAST Match To Marquette, 4-3

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Women's tennis drops a close BIG EAST match to Marquette Saturday on the road at Helfaer Tennis Stadium, 4-3. The Musketeers now hold a record of 13-4.
Xavier was able to split the singles points with Marquette. Sydney Liggins, Alex Brinker and Andrea Wolf obtained the singles points for Xavier. Liggins, competing at No. 1, defeated Ana Pimienta, 6-3, 6-2. Brinker beat Erin Gebes, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot. Finally, Wolf took the match from Laia Hernandez Soler at the No. 5 position, 6-3, 7-5.
Cristina Di Lorenzo, Daniella Patton and Lizzie Oosterbaan all dropped their matches, but would not go down without a fight. Di Lorenzo lost, 7-6, 7-5, Patton lost, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, and Oosterbann, 6-3, 6-1.
Xavier dropped the doubles point, ultimately allowing Marquette to take the match. Brinker and Liggins won their match, at the No. 1 position, over Ali Dawson and Hernandes Soler, 8-4. Gebes and Rocio Diaz beat Di Lorenzo and Porron, 8-2, while Allyson Westling and Wolf dropped their match to Pimienta and Aina Hernandez Soler, 8-5.
"Our girls really left it all out there today and I am very proud of how they performed and competed," said head coach Eric Toth. "Marquette's girls played a great match to their credit and were simply a few points better. It was a great college tennis match. Even though no on in our camp is happy with the results I think everyone realizes how today's effort can only help us heading in to the last month of the season."
Xavier now has a record of 1-1 in the BIG EAST with its next match is on the road at George Washington on Friday, April 4th.
