Musketeers Trounce Bearcats, 5-2

CINCINNATI - The women's tennis team was able to regroup and rally back after dropping a tough doubles point to beat Cincinnati, 5-2, on Wednesday at Western Tennis and Fitness Club.
At the No. 1 spot, Alex Brinker and Sydney Liggins dropped the first doubles match to Caitlin O'Gara and Kelly Poggensee-Wei, 8-4. Seniors Allyson Westling and Andrea Wolf won their match, 8-6, over Katya Bure and Carly Wilson. Being tied at 1-1, Cristina Di Lorenzo and Daniella Patton lost a hotly contested match to Lauren Bellinger and Carly Wilson, 8-7 (3).
Di Lorenzo turned the match around quickly grabbing the first singles win over O'Gara, 6-0, 6-4. Cincinnati responded quickly with Ashleigh Witt beating Brinker, 6-4, 6-3. Liggins tied the score with a win over Poggensee-Wei, 6-1, 7-5.
The Musketeers were then able to cruise their way to victory with wins from Patton, Wolf and Lizzie Oosterbaan. Patton, at No. 4 spot, defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-2. Wolf did the same after dropping her first set, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Oosterbaan rounded out the match beating Hannah Wille, 6-2, 6-4, giving Xavier the match, 5-2.
"Our girls really responded exceptionally in singles after losing a very closely contested doubles point where we had some chances to get the early lead," head coach Eric Toth. "Coming back the way we did against one of your rivals can only help us moving forward."
Xavier heads to Milwaukee, Wis. for its second BIG EAST dual of the season against the Golden Eagles of Marquette Saturday, March 29. The match will begin at 12 CST.
