CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's tennis team remained unbeaten in the Atlantic 10 and at home after picking up a narrow 4-3 victory over Temple on Friday night at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club.

The Musketeers (10-4, 4-0 A-10) split the singles decisions with the Owls (5-8, 2-3 A-10) after picking up the doubles point which proved to be the difference maker.

"Tonight's win keeps up moving in the right direction toward earning a high seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament," said head coach Eric Toth "Temple has gotten the best of us late and is always tough to beat. Our girls should enjoy this victory for a couple of days. As I told our girls our team's depth won the match for us tonight and will continue to carry us through the rest of the season."

Xavier picked up singles wins from Alex Brinker, Danielle Patton and Allyson Westling. It was the 12th-consecutive victory for Brinker who has spent all season at the No. 2 singles spot and needed three sets for the win on Friday.

Patton and Westling won their matches at the four and five spots, respectively, in straight sets helping Xavier to win its six match at home this season. The win was Westling's first of the year in dual match singles play having just returned to the lineup.

Friday's victory was the fourth one-point decision Xavier has captured this season and second league match. The results could prove vital for seeding purposes for the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship in a month.

The Musketeers earned wins at the second and third doubles positions to pull out the point to open the match. Westling and Patton moved to the two spot for the first time this season and won 8-4. Brinker along with classmate Brooke Dennis won their match 8-3 at the three position.

Xavier's streak of conference opponents continues next week as it travels to Saint Louis on Friday before returning home to square off with Duquesne on Sunday.
