CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's tennis team recorded three singles wins on Saturday afternoon versus Illinois-Chicago, but it was not enough to recorded the team victory as the Flames posted a 4-3 defeat of the Musketeers. XU falls to 4-5 on the season while UIC improves to 6-6 on the year.
UIC picked up its first win of the match at No. 2 doubles with Iris Jaklin and Christina Oum posting an 8-0 defeat of Annie Diedalis and Jackie Vilines. Kristen Clary and Kara Courtney evened up the doubles point at No. 1 as they recorded their 15th win of the season with an 8-6 victory over Callan Smith and Corey Steven. UIC's Molly Smith and Grace Gill-Morlis clinched the doubles point at No. 3 as the duo downed Xavier's Jeanette Feider and Kate Lohner, 8-6.
Clary continued her dominance in singles play as the senior rolled to her seventh straight win at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Jaklin. Courtney moved to 13-7 as the freshman posted a straight-set win over Corey Steven at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2. XU's final singles win of the match came at No. 6 as senior Sarah Potts rallied after losing the first set to defeat Christina Oum, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7).
Xavier will look to break its four-match losing streak on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. when the Musketeers play host to Eastern Michigan at the Western Tennis Club.
