Women's Tennis Downed by Central Florida, 6-1
March 7, 2007
ORLANDO, Fla. - The second day of the Xavier women's tennis team's spring trip to Florida saw the Musketeers fall to Central Florida 6-1 in Orlando. Xavier picked up wins from Kara Courtney in singles and in doubles from Jackie Vilines and Courtney, but it wasn't enough to get past the streaking Golden Knights.
The Musketeers slipped to 7-4 with the loss, while UCF (5-4) has won five straight after starting its season 0-4.
Elvia Serrot got things rolling with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Vilines in the No. 1 singles position. Courtney won Xavier's lone singles match by defeating Kena Belbacha by scores of 6-3 and 6-3. After winning her first set, Kaitlyn Zinn could not hold against Kyla McNicol and fell 5-7, 6-0, 10-8.
Vilines and Courtney won their doubles match, beating Serrot and Yakimchenkova 8-4. But neither the No. 2 pairing of Jill Ducro and Annie Diedalis nor the third pairing of Kate Lohner and Jeanette Feider could pull out victories.
Xavier returns to action Thursday with a contest at Flager University in Augustine, Fla.
