Feb. 19, 2014
CINCINNATI - A big win for women's tennis in their first BIG EAST battle of the season. Xavier (5-2, BIG EAST 1-0) defeated Butler (2-8, BIG EAST 0-1) in a clean sweep, 7-0 at home.
"Today was a great start in our new home in the BIG EAST," said head coach Eric Toth. "Every time we step to the court it is important, but no matches mean more than your conference matches. Our effort and execution were very good again today. We have a great test again on Friday against Bowling Green. BG always competes well and it will be a good match-up."
Cristina Di Lorenzo took care of business in true Musketeer fashion at the No. 3 position grabbing the first singles win over Kailey Eaton, 6-0, 6-0. Following her was fellow freshman Sydney Liggins defeating Konstantina Adami, 6-2, 6-0.
Doubles teams of Di Lorenzo and Patton and Allyson Westling and Wolf secured the double's point quick with scores of 8-1 and 8-2, respectively. Di Lorenzo and Patton improve their doubles team record to 6-0 this season with their win.
Xavier keeps their win streak of five matches alive tonight and will take it to Friday's match against Bowling Green at Eastern Hills. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
