YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Senior Kristen Clary recorded a singles and doubles win for the Xavier women's tennis team as the Musketeers recorded a 5-2 win over Youngstown State on Friday afternoon at the Boardman Tennis Center. XU moves to 2-1 on the season while the Penguins fall to 2-3.
XU took the early advantage in the match with victories at first and second doubles to pick up the doubles point. At No. 1, Clary teamed with freshman Kara Courtney for their 11th win with an 8-4 defeat of Allison Day and Gina Peretti. In the second slot, Annie Diedalis and Jackie Vilines defeated Emily Thayer Nicole Haralambopulous, 8-2.
In singes action, the Musketeers recorded wins in four of the six matches to earn the team win over the Penguins. Clary moves to 8-5 on the year with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Whitney Thomas. At No. 2, Courtney rolled to her 10th win of the season with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Emily Thayer.
Senior Emily Tuchscherer made her first appearance of the season at No. 5 where she recorded a 6-2, 7-6 (6) win over Haralambopulous. At No. 6, Sarah Potts finished up the Xavier win with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Michelle Fuleky.
Xavier will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 5, when the Musketeers play host to the Mastodons of IPFW. The match will get underway at 1:00 p.m. at Mercy HealthPlex of Fairfield.
