Two women's conference championships highlight this week's Olympic Sports Preview. Women's golf and women's tennis will compete for league titles.
Xavier heads into the 2012 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship this weekend in Charlottesvilla, Va.
For the most part, XU Olympic teams will be in Cincinnati this week. Baseball opens up conference play at home, track is at the Oliver Nikoloff meet, and the tennis teams play a combined five matches at home. The only sport on the road this week is men's golf.
The Xavier Olympic teams will spend their spring breaks far away from Cincinnati. Baseball and both tennis teams are in Florida, the men's golf team tees it up in North Myrtle Beach, and the women's golf team stays in Arizona.
Eric Toth enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Xavier University men's and women's tennis teams, his 16th overall with the programs, and is coming off highly successful seasons once again.
Toth holds an impressive 151-90 overall combined record as head coach of the Musketeers and has led the XU men to three Atlantic 10 Championship titles in 2008-2010 and two runner-up finishes in 2011-2012. He was also named the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2010.
Toth attended the University of Cincinnati and was a two-year co-captain on the men's tennis team there as well as the team MVP for the 1991 and `92 seasons. He excelled on the doubles court, earning ITA Region IV final rankings of sixth in 1993 and 12th in 1992. Toth ranks in the top ten in all-time victories at UC. Upon exhausting his eligibility, Toth served as the team's volunteer assistant coach during the 1994 season while completing his degree in secondary education.
Toth was a top-ranked junior in the greater Cincinnati area and played his high school tennis at Elder High School. He was a four-year varsity starter at Elder and was a runner-up in the 1988 3A State Doubles Tournament.
Outside of his work with the Musketeer tennis programs, Toth remains visible throughout the tennis community as a teaching professional and volunteer. Toth has previously served on Ohio Valley Region 12 coaches committee. He currently serves as the Director of Tennis at the Hyde Park Golf and Country Club and is a staff professional at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club. Additionally, Toth assumes many volunteer responsibilities throughout the area and currently serves as board member for the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Association.
