Former Xavier tennis standout Kara Courtney has joined the Musketeer women's tennis staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2011-12 season. This is Courtney's second year helping the team out. Courtney ranks sixth all-time at XU in singles wins and fifth in all-time overall wins. "I am glad to have Kara on our staff," said Xavier tennis coach Eric Toth. "Kara is one of the very best players to ever compete at Xavier and will have a very positive influence on the girls on this year's roster." As a player, Courtney earned numerous awards including two ITA Scholar Athlete awards, numerous Atlantic 10 Commissioners Honor Roll selections, and Second Team All-Conference awards. Courtney graduated from Xavier with a degree in occupational therapy in 2009.
