Women's Soccer Stars Gruber, Singer and Coley Earn All-Great Lakes Region Honors


CINCINNATI --- The honors continue to pour in for Xavierís 2000 Atlantic 10 Champion Womenís Soccer Team, which made its second NCAA Tournament appearance in three years. Annette Gruber, a senior forward from Cincinnatiís St. Ursula Academy, has been named Second Team All-Great Lakes Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-America Committee. She earned the same honor from the coaches and soccer expert panel of Soccer Buzz. Soccer Buzz also named Liz Singer, a junior defender from Cincinnatiís Roger Bacon High School, to its All-Great Lakes Region Second Team and Erin Coley, a senior midfielder from Westerville (OH) South High School, to its All-Great Lakes Region Third Team. The trio helped XU tie the school record for wins this season at 14-7-1, including 13-1-1 over its last 15 matches.

Annette Gruber led Xavier in scoring with 27 points, including team highs of nine goals and nine assists. Gruber, a senior tri-captain, finished her career second on Xavierís all-time scoring list with 141 points and first in all-time assists with 35. Gruber, who started all 83 matches since donning the XU uniform, was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference for the fourth straight year, only the fifth player in A-10 history to accomplish that feat. She was named Atlantic 10 Championship "Most Outstanding Player" for the second straight year.

Liz Singer was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference. She was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Tournament team for the third straight year. She was moved to the key position of sweeper in the XU defense and the Musketeers reaped the benefits, helping XU record a school record 11 shutouts, including 10 against Atlantic 10 competition.

Erin Coley was a senior tri-captain on this yearís NCAA Tournament participant. Coley, a four-year starter, was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference for the second straight year.
