CINCINNATI -- The Xavier women's soccer team will play its most important games of the season Friday and Sunday as the Musketeers host Atlantic 10 foes Charlotte and Saint Louis with A-10 Tournament hopes on the line. Xavier takes on Charlotte Friday at 7 p.m. and SLU Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday's game will be senior day at which seniors Jessica Brooks, Melanie McLoughlin, Andi Meyer, and juniors Leslie Boersma and Chelsea Burns will be honored.
Xavier (6-7-3, 1-4-2) -- The Musketeers are coming off of a win and a tie in their last two outings. XU downed temple 1-0 on October 21 and fought Saint Joseph's to a 1-1 tie October 23. Even though Xavier didn't clinch a tournament spot last weekend, it did help its cause by not dropping a game.
Brooks sits atop the goals column in the XU stats with three goals this season. Her third goal of 2011 came Sunday when she tied the game in the 72nd minute with a sliding shot from a Leslie Twehues pass.
Boersma and sophomores Ashton Green and Mariah Whitaker sit in second in goals with two each this season. Whitaker posted her second goal of the season with an emphatic header to win the game against Temple last Friday.
Defensively, the Musketeers are tops in the Atlantic 10 Conference in saves (123), with freshman goalkeeper Katie Markesbery leading the way in the conference with 114 saves.
Home Sweet Home -- The Musketeers remained unbeaten in the friendly confines of the XU Soccer Complex with Sunday's tie being the only draw seen this season at Xavier's on-campus facility.
Charlotte (6- 8- 4, 3- 3- 1) -- The 49ers will be Xavier's first test this weekend as the two teams are set to do battle Friday at 7 p.m. The Niners currently sit in sixth in the conference standings and a win over the team in green would do much to help the Musketeers' cause.
Macky Wingo leads the Niners in goals with six this season, while the team has totaled 20 scores in 2011. Alex Kubrick has posted the most minutes in goal for Charlotte and has pulled down 47 saves
Saint Louis (5-8-3, 3-3-1) -- The Billikens will face Dayton on Friday before heading to Cincinnati to face the Musketeers in the regular season finale.
Abby Stock leads the way in the goals column for SLU with five scores this season and goalkeeper Katie Walsh has posted 150 minutes and pulled down 78 saves between the sticks in 2011.
