CINCINNATI - In the second weekend of Atlantic 10 Conference play, the Xavier women's soccer team is staying on the road. XU will square off against Saint Louis Friday at 8 p.m. ET and will head to Indianapolis Sunday for a 1 p.m. tilt at Butler.
About the Musketeers Xavier (6-5-1, 1-1-0 A-10) opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with a 1-1 weekend on the road, earning a 1-0 result at Rhode Island last Friday and dropping a 2-0 decision at Massachusetts on Sunday. The Musketeers are led offensively by junior Mariah Whitaker with nine points on the season and a team-high 19 shots. Whitaker has scored three goals while sophomore Margaret Woods and freshmen Catherine Allon and Erin McGauley have scored two apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Markesbery leads the league with 74 saves on the season and has played all but 24:20 between the posts for XU in 2012.
Scouting Saint Louis Saint Louis (2-5-3, 0-0-1 A-10) last played on Sept. 29, a scoreless double-overtime affair at Butler in its opening match of the Atlantic 10 season. The Billikens have only played two of their 10 matches this year at home - the match against the Musketeers will be their first at home since Sept. 12. SLU is led offensively by Jenny Hummert with four points and a team-high 20 shots. In addition to Hummert's two goals, Jamei Borges has also netted two balls this year. Katie Walsh has been a fixture in goal for the Billikens this season, working all 960 minutes over 10 matches. She has tallied 49 saves to 12 goals against.
Last Time Out On Sept. 30, the Musketeers dropped a 2-0 decision at Massachusetts in their second Atlantic 10 contest of the season. XU was only able to get off four shots on the afternoon to UMass' 24 and sophomore Katie Schweer had the Musketeers' only shot on goal. Sophomore keeper Katie Markesbery tallied eight saves on the day to two goals against.
Road Warriors The Musketeers played five of their first six matches of 2012 on the road. XU went 2-3 in those contests, recording its first road win of the season on Sept. 2 at IUPUI. The Musketeers are currently on another long away streak - Saint Louis is the fourth match of six straight road games.
