CINCINNATI --- Xavier University officially begins BIG EAST play on Thursday night and the debut will be shown nationally. The Musketeer women's soccer team opens BIG EAST Conference play on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at St. John's in a match that will be broadcast on ESPN3. Xavier's match at St. John's is the first BIG EAST competition for any Xavier sport after 18 years in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Xavier, 7-1-1, completed the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 2-0 win over NAIA power University of Northwestern Ohio on Monday at the Xavier Soccer Complex. St. John's enters the match with a 6-1-1 record.

Xavier has already passed the win total for the entire 19-match 2012 season (6-12-1). The last time Xavier had only one loss after nine matches was the 1993 season. XU had a 7-1-1 record before losing three straight matches on the road.

The Musketeers have shut out seven of their first nine opponents. The seven shutouts already ties Xavier for the fourth-most shutouts in a season in Xavier history: 11 (2000), 9 (1991 and 1985) and 7 (2011). XU's shutout victims include former BIG EAST member Cincinnati (3-0 on Sept. 13).
