Womenís Soccer Team Drops Atlantic 10 Opener at Dayton
DAYTON, OH --- The Xavier Musketeers dropped their Atlantic 10 Conference opener at Dayton on Thursday night, 1-0. The teams had to wait out a one hour and 50 minute lightning delay at UDís Baujan Field before kicking off the A-10 season.
The Flyers got what proved to be the only goal of the night at the 34:37 mark in the first half when senior Shannon Kuhl knocked in a header off a cross from junior Beth McHugh. Freshman Katie Lowstuter was also credited with an assist on the play as she set up McHugh.
Kuhl is the younger sister of Xavier graduate and former Musketeer soccer standout Stacey Kuhl, who secured XUs first-ever A-10 Championship and NCAA berth in 1998 with the deciding penalty kick during an overtime shootout victory over Dayton at Baujan Field in the 1998 Atlantic 10 Championship Game.
Xavier falls to 0-1 in the A-10 and 3-4 overall, while defending A-10 Champion Dayton raises its record to 1-0 in the A-10 and 6-1 overall.
The Musketeers are back in action on Sunday at Illinois State.
