Women's Soccer Wins On The Road At Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Xavier University women’s soccer team got its four-game road trip off to a winning start with a 2-1 win at Butler. Senior Lindsay Yonadi (Boca Raton, FL/Spanish River) scored one of Xavier’s two goals and assisted on the other.

Xavier opened the scoring just 9:34 into the first as Yonadi crossed a free kick to fellow senior Tracy Veith (Cincinnati/St. Ursula), who finished it off to give XU the early 1-0 lead. That’s how it stayed until almost 30 minutes went off the clock in the second half. Yonadi drilled a corner kick towards the mouth of the goal and it deflected into the net off a Butler defender at the 74:13 mark.

Butler tried to mount a late rally, scoring a goal at the 82:12 mark to cut the deficit in half. Xavier junior goalkeeper Andrea Garber (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville), coming off back-to-back shutout efforts, recorded a couple of key saves in the closing minutes and finished with 12 saves on the afternoon.

Yonadi now leads Xavier in scoring (eight points) and assists (two) and is tied for the lead in goals scored (three).

The Musketeers raised their record to 3-1-1, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-2-1.

Xavier continues its four-game road stretch later this week as it travels to California. XU’s next match is at 10th-ranked Pepperdine on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
