CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University women’s soccer team, 3-0-1, hosts crosstown rival Cincinnati on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Xavier Soccer Complex. The two teams did not meet last season.

The match will be available in a live stream broadcast via GoXavier.com.

Xavier, which is off to its best start since 1997, has wins over Purdue, Evansville and North Dakota and a 0-0 tie in its latest match last Friday at Eastern Kentucky. Cincinnati, 1-5, is coming off a tough 1-0 setback at UC Santa Barbara this past Sunday. This Friday’s game is the sixth road match for UC in its first seven matches.

The Musketeers have eight Cincinnati area players on its roster, including seniors Bridget Tully (Cincinnati/Turpin) and Sydnee Fields (Fairfield, Ohio/Badin), juniors Katie Markesbery (Cincinnati/Indian Hill) and Katie Schweer (Cincinnati/St. Ursula), sophomore Megan Dalton (Cincinnati/Anderson) and freshmen Ellie Eckerle (Villa Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy), Maggie Hare (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and Erika LaRosa (Cincinnati/Seton).

Markesbery is coming a great week with back-to-back shutouts. Markesbery was named BIG EAST Conference Goalkeeper of the Week after recording a pair of shutouts last week in two tight matches, including a 1-0 win over Evansville last Wednesday and a 0-0 tie in double overtime at Eastern Kentucky last Friday. She had 10 saves for the week, while lowering her season goals against average to 0.93. Markesbery is ranked first in the BIG EAST in saves per game at 6.7 and is fifth in GAA. Senior midfielder Mariah Whitaker was named preseason First Team All-BIG EAST by collegesportsmadness.com.

Xavier’s next two matches are on the road at Morehead State this Sunday at 1 p.m. (free live stream via Morehead State/OVC) and at Indiana (pay-per-view live stream via IU) next Wednesday at 7 p.m. XU returns home on Friday, Sept. 20 to host Northern Kentucky in a 6:30 p.m. match at the Xavier Soccer Complex.
