Women's Soccer Drops Another Close One

CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University women’s soccer team fell to 0-2 with a 1-0 loss to Marshall on Friday night at XU’s Corcoran Field.

Marshall broke a scoreless deadlock at the 36:13 mark when sophomore Lauren Scott lofted a perfect pass to the right side of the penalty box. Junior Kelly Kennedy took the pass and drilled a perfect angled shot over the outstretched arms of Xavier junior goalie Megan Veith (Cincinnati/St. Ursula) and into the left side of the net. Marshall outshot XU 8-4 before intermission.

Xavier came out with much more energy in the second half and took the attack to Marshall. Xavier had plenty of opportunities, outshooting the visitors 9-4 in the second half, including a shot that bounced hard off the crossbar. It marked the second straight 1-0 loss for Xavier and the second straight week it has rattled the crossbar.

Marshall raised its record to 2-1 with the win. Freshman goalie Ashleigh Woods notched two saves in recording the shutout victory.

The Musketeers continue the homestand on Sunday night against Indiana at 7:00 p.m. at Corcoran Field.
