BIG EAST Release
NEW YORK - Xavier senior goalkeeper Katie Markesbery was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after she collected eight saves in the Musketeers' match at Toledo.
Markesbery, a Cincinnati, Ohio native, earned the honor after she and the Xavier defense allowed only one goal and kept the Musketeers within striking distance for the duration of Xavier's 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. The co-captain of the Xavier team has previously been honored by the BIG EAST, collecting conference Goalkeeper of the Week nominations on two occasions in 2013.
Markesbery's 18 saves through the first three games of the season brings her career save total to 382, a number that ranks third all-time in Xavier history. She also holds the all-time Xavier record for career wins with 21.
The Musketeers have a short turnaround from Sunday's game, traveling to Indianapolis, Ind. on Tuesday to take on IUPUI at 7:00 P.M. for the fourth of five road games to open XU's regular season.
