CINCINNATI -- The Xavier women's soccer team will be looking for its first win of the season Friday night as the Musketeers welcome local rival Miami (Ohio) to the XU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Musketeers

Xavier (0-2-0) is coming off of two consecutive losses to start the season last weekend. The Musketeers dropped a 1-0 decision at No. 8 Ohio State Friday night and suffered another 1-0 loss at Cincinnati on Sunday.

"We are excited to open the home portion of our 2011 season," said XU head coach Woody Sherwood. "I've seen Miami play and they are very organized, dangerous in the attack and athletic. We are continuing to fine tune our lineup and substitution patterns as we evaluate our players. I think Friday night's game will be a great opportunity for us to showcase our 2011 team."

The Musketeers' record certainly doesn't reflect their effort in the past two games. Defensively, XU was solid with freshman goalkeeper Katie Markesbery posting 21 saves in 180 minutes of action. On the offensive side, senior forward Jessica Brooks leads the team with four shots and junior forward Kelsey Phillips is second with three shots.

The RedHawks

Miami (2-0-0) is coming off of 4-0 wins in its first two matches. The RedHawks defeated IUPUI 4-0 on Friday night in their season opener, and downed 2010 NCAA Tournament participant Morehead State by the same margin Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Katy Dolesh was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week after posting three goals and an assist in the club's first two games.

The RedHawks have put up a lot of offense in their first two matches, out-shooting their opponents 42-9. Goalkeeper Allison Norenberg has posted four saves in 180 minutes of action.

The Series

The Musketeers trail the RedHawks in the overall series 2-5-2 with MU taking a 3-1 decision in the teams' last meeting in 2009.

Upcoming Contests

Friday's game begins a three-game homestand for the Musketeers. XU hosts Evansville August 31, and Ball State on September 4.
