CINCINNATI -- The 2010 edition of the Xavier University women's soccer team will take the pitch this weekend as the Musketeers kick off the regular season at Ball State Friday, August 20 at 4 p.m. Xavier follows the BSU match with a contest at Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Kentucky Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Musketeers fell to Ohio 2-1 last Sunday in exhibition action. Musketeer junior Jessica Brooks scored the lone goal for Xavier in the eighth minute of play. XU goalkeeper Jennifer Perri pulled down six saves on the day.
On Friday, XU will be facing a Ball State squad that is led by new head coach Craig Roberts. Prior to BSU, Roberts was the head coach at the University of Tennessee, Martin. The Cardinals are coming off of a 2-2 tie against Cincinnati in exhibition action on Saturday, August 14.
Friday's match marks just the second time that the Musketeers have faced the Cardinals. In the previous meeting, Ball State came from behind for a 3-2 victory over XU.
Sunday's match at Eastern Kentucky marks just the second time that the two teams have faced each other. XU and EKU last met in the final match of the 2005 season which resulted in a 2-0 Musketeer victory.
The Colonels are coming off a 5-0 win over Union College in exhibition play last Sunday. Prior to hosting Xavier, EKU will open their 2010 season at Louisville on Friday, August 20.
