Sophomore defender Courtney Kobashigawa earned Preseason All-BIG EAST second team honors from College Sports Madness.
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer sophomore Courtney Kobashigawa earned a spot on the College Sports Madness BIG EAST Preseason All-Conference Women's soccer second team.
Kobashigawa, a Hawaii native who attended high school in Dublin, Ohio, started all 18 games for the Musketeers during her freshman season. The defender was part of the Xavier backline that recorded eight shutouts during the 2013 season, Xavier's first winning season (9-8-1) since 2005.
Kobashigawa and the Musketeers open the 2014 season at home with an exhibition match against Dayton on Thursday, August 14. Xavier will then travel to Harrisonburg, Va. for the James Madison Invitational on August 22 and 24 as part of a challenging 10-game non- conference schedule that includes matches against Pepperdine and Cincinnati.
In addition to Kobashigawa, the Musketeers return senior goalkeeper Katie Markesbery, who holds the Xavier record for career wins and is top-three all-time in saves with a season of eligibility remaining. Xavier also brings back sophomore forward Tori Doss, who led the team in assists and points and tied for team-lead in goals during her freshman season.
Head coach Woody Sherwood also added an eight-player recruiting class to the mix for 2014. Sherwood describes the class as having an "attacking mentality" and hopes they will improve the Musketeer offense.
