CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University women`s soccer team is excited about the prospects for the 2013 fall season. The Musketeers open the fall season with an exhibition match at Notre Dame on Wednesday night followed by its final exhibition match, which will be played this Saturday night at Xavier against Miami (Ohio) at 7 p.m.
“This is an extremely exciting time of the year for us,’ said fourth-year head coach Woody Sherwood.
“It’s amplified more by the fact we are entering the BIG EAST and coming off of the best spring in the history of the program. That provided our team with a lot of confidence. We played really well and earned some great results. I think our group is very optimistic about this fall. We could really use contributions from our incoming class and are hopeful for a quick transition for them from club to D1 college soccer.”
“We have a small window to prepare from our first practice to our trip to face one of the top teams in the country, Notre Dame,” said Sherwood, “but it’s an exciting opportunity for us to see how we match up against the Irish.”
There is reason for Sherwood to be optimistic. In addition to a talented incoming class, the veterans enjoyed an excellent spring season. Xavier completed its best spring season on record with a 4-0-1 record, marking the first time on record that a Xavier women's soccer team has completed an undefeated spring season. For the record, the Musketeers scored 13 goals in five spring matches, while conceding only three.
