CINCINNATI -

Xavier University women's soccer head coach Woody Sherwood announced today that midfielder/defender Courtney Kobashigawa has transferred to Xavier and will join the Musketeers for the fall season, XU's first in the new Big East Conference. Kobashigawa spent her freshman year at the University of Kentucky, although she had to sit out as a medical redshirt.

Sherwood is excited about the addition of Kobashigawa, who was a highly-recruited talent coming out of high school. "I had the opportunity to coach Courtney with the U.S. Region 2 Regional Team a few years ago and thought she was one of the top players in the region," said Sherwood. "Her experiences with the U.S. National Team program as well as playing at an elite level in club soccer have provided her the experience needed to help us in the Big East. We look forward to having Courtney join us this fall."

Kobashigawa, a Hawaiian native who grew up in Dublin, Ohio, led Dublin Jerome High School to the Ohio Division I state finals. Kobashigawa has competed at the highest level, including as a member of the U.S. Soccer National Team for the U-14 and U-15 teams. She played her club soccer at the Ohio Elite Soccer Academy, helping lead them to the 2011 State Cup Championship. She was on the ODP State Team from 2008-12 and the ODP Regional Team from 2008-12.
