Women's Soccer Team Enjoyed A Successful Spring Season
April 27, 2007 CINCINNATI - The Xavier University women's soccer team completed its Spring practice season with a 4-2-2 record, including back-to-back wins over local rivals Miami (2-0) and Cincinnati (3-2) to close the schedule. Sophomore Sara Schmidt scored a team-high five goals this Spring, leading a group of four players who scored at least three times in XU's eight matches. Junior Karin Martini scored four goals, while freshman Ali Nellis and sophomore Maggie O'Neal each contributed three goals to the balanced Musketeer attack. "I think we had a tremendous Spring," said head coach Alvin Alexander, " especially when you consider that several of our top players had to sit out the Spring season, including Brittany Green, Carissa Gilbert, Shannon Chambers, Sara Doutt, Susan Loeffler and Melissa Zimmerman." "I think our team depth really stood out this Spring," said Alexander. "Our overall team play was very encouraging. I'm really excited about our prospects for next fall."
